Improve flexibility of slider appearance

I'd like to be able to configure sliders on number fields to use different colours under different circumstances - for example, traffic light colours (red, amber, green) depending on the value of the slider. Also nice to be able to use a brand colour even on standard sliders rather than grey. I'd also like to control the separator used in the label (e.g. use a colon instead of a hyphen)
